1. Pick a Location

First, you want to look around at your competitors to see how they are doing. You can judge if there is a large demand for your services in an area that way. Another reason you want to look at your competitors is you want to know how many of them are in the area.
If there are a lot of other nail salons in an area there is a smaller chance that you’ll be able to take off.
2. Don’t Buy Cheap Equipment
You’ll need to set a certain budget and cut corners in some places, but that place shouldn’t be your equipment. If you’re using cheap equipment and uncomfortable nail salon chairs, it’s going to show.
Low-quality equipment is going to be annoying for your employees to work with so you want to get better stuff to make them happy. If your salon isn’t comfortable to be in, your customers aren’t going to be happy. If a customer has a bad experience due to faulty equipment, it’ll be hard to make loyal customers.
So, even though you won’t have a lot of money as a start-up, you’re going to want to sink it into equipment and seating.
3. Set the Right Atmosphere
Customers come into nail salons in order to relax and unwind. It’s a way to treat themselves after a hard week. You want to make sure your salon can provide this comfort.
Have dim lighting with soft music or movies playing. You also want your salon to smell good, so you might want to invest in a good ventilation system. The chemicals that are used in salons can be more than a little overpowering.
4. Keep It Clean
A clean salon is a happy salon. Your nail salon supplies are just asking to build bacteria and if it doesn’t look clean, a customer isn’t going to want it to be used on them. You’ll want the shop to look clean from the moment a customer steps through your door.

Give cleaning duties to your opening staff, and closing staff, or have each person clean their station at the end of their shift. 5. Be Friendly
If a customer is being hard to deal with don’t yell, kill them with kindness instead. Customers are at your salon to relax so you want to give them the friendliest service possible.
One of the best ways to create this friendly atmosphere is to hire dedicated receptionists. Their duty will be to greet customers when they come through the door, process transactions, show them your packages, and answer the phone. It doesn’t look very professional when staff members get up from working on a customer’s nails to do it.
6. Work as a Team
It’s very important that you and your staff work as a team. You want to show them that you care and have great communication. Make them feel wanted and clearly tell them what you expect from them.
Nobody is going to know what your expectations are right away, instead of getting frustrated, walk them through it. Teach them how you run things at your salon because they aren’t mind readers.
One thing you can do is hold meetings every week or so to tell everyone what is working and what isn’t working. Make sure that when you do this you don’t make anyone feel called out.
7. Use Salon Software

Social media is the perfect marketing tool for a small business. By setting up an account on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram you can easily create an online presence for your company.
You can also team up with a social media personality to promote your salon. If you can’t find one you can do promos and special offers as well.
