Pinterest Just Got Better for Businesses
Last Thursday, Pinterest announced that they are launching a new feature for advertisers, promoted pins. While in theory, promoted pins will be nearly identical to Facebook’s promoted posts, Pinterest promises these pins will not be glorified banner ads or spam. The intention is to build on Pinterest’s social sharing foundation, but feature promoted pins tailored to users’ favorite boards and interests.
Ben Silbermann, CEO & Co-Founder of Pinterest commented,
For our first test, we’ll promote a few pins in search results and category feeds. For example, a pin for a Darth Vader outfit from a costume shop might be promoted in a search for “halloween.” Nobody’s paying for anything yet—we want to see how things go and, more than anything, hear what you think.
It is well-known that Pinterest has some of the highest levels of user engagement on the internet and that it’s user base includes a strong female demographic, all of which poses the question; is Pinterest going to become the new hot platform for stylists and salons to promote and advertise their skills?
We’ll keep you posted on when Pinterest plans to open this feature to the public.
What are your thoughts on Pinterest for the salon industry?
